A rise in anti-immigrant rhetoric and racial attacks and the murder of Indian engineer Srinivas Kuchibhotla in Kansas may prompt some foreigners to reconsider plans to work or study in the United States, reports Heena Khandelwal for Daily News & Analysis. A 51-year old suspect, a veteran, also injured another Indian engineer as a group convened in a bar to watch a University of Kansas basketball game, before another customer, a construction worker, intervened. “Sunayana Dumala, widow of Srinivas Kuchibhotla, said that she always had doubts about safety in the US, but was always assured by her husband,” she demands an answer, “What are they going to do to stop this hate crime?” Khandelwal wrote. The article, based on anecdotal reports, suggests that racism is common in US schools, “mostly in ones which aren't rich in global population,” but workplaces are generally professional.
