Haaretz: Netanyahu Says Iran Nuclear Deal Is Based on Lies

With a document release, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu maintains that Iran has deceived the world about its ambitions for nuclear weapons. “Netanyahu referred to a secret Iranian nuclear project, codenamed ‘Amad, which he said had been shelved in 2003, though he said work in the field had continued,” reports Noa Landau for Haaretz. In a news conference, he claimed Iran lied about not having a secret nuclear program, continued working on the program after the nuclear deal was signed, and withholds information from the International Atomic Energy. Leaders in the United States and Israel target Iran for destabilizing the Middle East. Iran is the second most populous country in the Middle East after Egypt. Israel also rejects Iran’s support of the regime in Syria, and may be responsible for recent airstrikes on missiles and Iranian troops in that country. “The strikes came as tensions increase between Israel and Iran in Syria and the U.S. deadline on Iranian sanctions regarding the nuclear deal, May 12, draws near.” Analysts suggest the presentation was directed to the US president.
