Africa and the Winds of Globalization

Africa is often described as a victim of globalization. However, analyst Okechukwu Emeh argues that the continent’s developing states can join together to make the process work in their favor. On the theory that a rising tide lifts all boats, incorporating African industries into global markets can improve everyone’s level of wealth. Imports of gadgets, modes of organization and “neo-liberal values” can lead to growth for developing nations and increase wealth and freedom for Africans. Yet for Africa to harness the economic and social gains of globalization, its members must enhance their regional institutions. Before Africa can effectively cooperate with the world, it must strengthen internal collaboration. Emeh argues that such cooperation will deliver security, values and economic strength to the continent, making Africa an effective player on the global stage. – YaleGlobal
