Ambassador: Germany Needs Skilled Workers From India

Germany’s ambassador to India has announced that his country welcomes skilled workers from India and noted that immigration procedures and education regulations have been eased, reports the Times of India. One catch: Ambassador Michael Steiner urged Indians interested in studying or working in Germany to learn German. Language study unites country and people, and the ambassador was quoted as saying: “"It brings countries together. It is good for our country because we would like to have as many people as possible who learn German so that you can also enter but [it’s] also good for you... good for India as a whole." He admitted that foreign workers experienced difficulties in Germany only a decade ago, but insisted the country is now more welcoming. A problem for Germany is that most Indians already speak multiple languages, and up to 20 percent speak English. Sometimes, it is pointed out that India has more English speakers than all of Western Europe. – YaleGlobal
