Bloomberg: Moon Asserts Right to Veto US War

South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in is adamant: His country would be most impacted by any military action against North Korea and he has a right to veto any such action. Moon “vowed to prevent war at any cost – a statement that drew a sharp contrast with President Donald Trump, who has warned of ‘fire and fury’ if North Korea continues to threaten the US,” report a team of reporters for Bloomberg. They also report on the observations of a director at the Lowy Institute in Sydney who points out that the United States regards itself as a primary concern and South Korea as a secondary concern. Angry exchanges between Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un have overshadowed Moon’s calls for dialogue and peace. In the meantime, North Korea has backed off from a threat to fire missiles near Guam, but continues to marginalize South Korea, preferring to work directly with the United States. Joint military exercises for South Korea and the United States are scheduled for August 21. It’s a dangerous time for division between the two nations. – YaleGlobal
