British News Sites Seek Out Readers in the US

Americans are flocking online to read feisty articles of the British press. Online sites of the Times of London, the Guardian and the Sunday Times all have substantial circulations in the US. ''They got all these readers without even trying,'' said journalism professor Jeff Jarvis, as reported by Eric Pfanner in the New York Times. Sophisticated search engines assist readers who search for news around the globe. Meanwhile, the US media have reduced budgets and international reporting at a time when audiences yearn to understand the world’s trouble spots, explain editors with the Guardian. The British editors are quickly responding with new editions, online front pages and reports to keep American readers. With readers in hand, the British publishers now must work at trying to figure out how to capitalize on the new audiences with advertising revenue. – YaleGlobal
