The Climate May Be Right for a Warming Bill

The American public supports government action on climate change – but balks at any steps that will increase costs or change a comfortable way of life. This ambivalence has stalled legislation in US Congress. In the US, environmental legislation is often tied to other issues. For example, one bill with a chance of passage is America’s Climate Security Act. With the US is suffering an economic downturn, politicians disagree whether the time is right for the sacrifices inherent in an effort to fight climate change. Strong leadership from the next US president could help more in Congress to decide whether legislation on climate change is a waste of money at a time that the US cannot afford it, or an investment for the future at a time when the world’s supply of fossil fuels continues to decline. – YaleGlobal
