Climate Panel Issues Urgent Warning to Curb Gases

Human activities are almost certainly the main cause of global warming since 1950 and immediate action will only blunt some of the damage, reports the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Humans must strive for conservation and slow use of carbon-based fuels, such as oil and gas. Severe weather patterns, deteriorating habitats and species decline are accelerating as a result of climbing average temperatures, reports the international group of scientists. A major obstacle to all-out global cooperation is that climate change does not attack all parts of the world equally. For example, coastal communities in the tropics and arctic villages suffer the strong effects now; people who despise cold and snow shrug, suggesting that global warming improves their lifestyles. The warnings about global warming are not new – the UN panel has been studying the changing climate since 1988, reports “The New York Times.” Recent attention from the media and world leaders may prompt ordinary people to take action. – YaleGlobal
