Debt Collection Done From India Appeals to US Agencies

Making calls to remind borrowers about unpaid debts isn’t easy – and so it’s a natural job for outsourcing. With a sluggish US economy, there’s plenty of calls that need to be made, and debt collection represents growth for outsourcing firms, reports Heather Timmons for the New York Times. India has become a favorite source for debt-collection services because of low costs, automated systems and employees who speak calmly and politely. Some firms also offer detailed analysis – researching and explaining specific reasons behind the debt and offering steps for prevention. Agencies use the Indian collectors for credit-card, auto and other debt, but not for mortgages, often entangled in legalities. Trained to investigate, empathize and negotiate, the debt collectors in India earn six times the average salary in India and, unlike their counterparts in the US, enjoy a position of status. – YaleGlobal
