The Fight Over the Future of Food

Population growth and climate change are creating the need for a second Green Revolution. But the form that revolution should take is heavily contested. Activists argue that the second revolution can’t be like the first, which left behind environmental damage and some claim is not sustainable. The debate is further complicated by a divide between developed and developing nations, and differing opinions on the use of genetically-modified organisms.. But developing nations have a basic need for more calories and some are more open to modified seeds, though public opinion runs the gamut over their use. A further challenge is finding the money to grow and transport food for a world population estimated to surpass nine billion in 2050. In the end, it would appear the tools to solve the problems of hunger are available, yet a workable compromise remains elusive. − YaleGlobal
