Google Glass to Be “Made in USA”

Google Project Glass is a wearable computer, much like a smartphone, that connects a user via voice-recognition software to an array of programs and apps, including maps, email, calendar and more. The company announced that the digital eyewear will be manufactured in California, near the company’s Silicon Valley headquarters with many Asian components. “Google is working with Hon Hai Precision Industry, the Taiwanese contract manufacturer better known as Foxconn, to assemble the sci-fi headset at a facility in Santa Clara, California, according to people familiar with the company’s plans,” reports Tim Bradshaw with the Financial Times. A contest will allow 8000 users to purchase the devices at $1500. The company expects to produce a limited run of a few thousand devices in upcoming weeks, presumably to allow testing, modification, customization and even creation of new apps. Or the devices could be withdrawn from the market, as was the case with Nexus Q, a movie- and music-streaming device from Google. – YaleGlobal
