Google Working on “Common-Sense” AI Engine at New Zurich Base

Anyone connected online has a wealth of knowledge at their fingertips, and it doesn’t take much misinformation to trip up individuals or machines. A Google research center based in Europe will focus on developing common sense for artificial intelligence as well as language and human-machine dialogue. Emmanuel Mogenet, who oversees the unit, suggests the world is entering a new era of computing. “Machine learning is already the ‘secret sauce’ in a lot of Google products, said Mr Mogenet, including search, spam filters, translation and content removal, as well as newer products such as its virtual helper Google Assistant, messaging app Allo and self-driving cars,” reports BBC News. Another Google team conducts data analysis, partnering with the National Health Service in Britain to analyze patient records and develop an early alert system for kidney disease. Other researchers observe how AI machines play games and then make adjustments to improve AI strategy and creativity. – YaleGlobal
