The Guardian: Immigrant Children in Cages at Texas Warehouse

Widespread media coverage of a south Texas warehouse sheds light on the physical manifestations of the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy vis-à-vis illegal immigration. An estimated 2,000 children have been taken from their parents since US Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the initiative, “which directs homeland security officials to refer all cases of illegal entry into the US for prosecution.” Numerous human rights and advocacy groups call out the process as “inhumane.” An article for the Guardian observes, “more than 1,100 people were inside the large, dark facility that was divided into separate wings for unaccompanied children, adults on their own and mothers and fathers with children.” Reports of children being forcibly separated from their parents’ arms and stories of parents unable to locate their children propel outrage. –YaleGlobal
