Hear Them Roar

In countries and conflict zones where female voices are traditionally stifled, women have proven to be some of the most active dissidents. This tendency is not limited to the ranks of activists as female participation in politics and business has grown dramatically worldwide. In the developing world, the levels of basic education for women are rising. There are now as many girls as boys in primary and secondary schools. Women also hold increasing economic power and receive greater support from international institutions, which see female economic empowerment as an effective step toward economic prosperity and democratic socio-political stability. Female activists also reach beyond their local constraints to a global audience through the internet and other media. As women gain in power worldwide, one of the key questions is how they will change the world. A greater focus on healthcare and education favored by women may be only the tip of the iceberg. – YaleGlobal
