Home, Sweet Home – for Some
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the African continent hosts the world's most mobile population. Due to adverse conditions, citizens of countries will flee, at least temporarily, often taking with them skills that are greatly needed back home. This phenomenon, sometimes called "brain drain" – coupled with shortages in crucial fields, including medicine – has prompted several organizations to devise plans to encourage emigres to return to their roots. South African groups have been particularly enterprising in this respect, and the extent of their success remains to be seen. Unfortunately, as The Economist notes, "most African countries are still a long way from being tempting places to come back to." In the global competition for talent, Africa faces an uphill climb. – YaleGlobal
