India Becoming a Crucial Cog in the Machine at IBM
IBM is unmatched in taking advantage of the technology talent-pool in India and providing global services on a grand scale. While US and European workers have faced repeated layoffs over the past several years, the number of IBM’s Indian employees grows at a staggering rate. IBM’s growth in India also stems from multiple acquisitions of Indian companies. The company’s research labs focus on improving technology services for all sectors, and another division focuses on supplying state-of-the-art consulting services. The company plans for 60,000 consultants worldwide to provide advice ranging from supply-chain management and to compliance with banking rules, tracking company assets and controlling costs. As a result, IBM’s size and revenue have increased steadily, generating $91 billion in sales in 2005 and $47 billion from services. Other companies follow on IBM’s heels, trying to keep up, and the battle for talent raises salaries. For now, India is a key factor driving IBM strategy for global technology services. – YaleGlobal
