Mumbai Restaurant Uses Drone to Deliver Pizza

A pizzeria in Mumbai conducted a test flight and delivered a pizza with an unmanned done in mid-May. The restaurant owners read about multinational Amazon’s plans for drone delivery and decided to give it a try with pizza. “A four-rotor drone took off with the order from its outlet in central Mumbai's Lower Parel area and delivered it to a high-rise building in adjacent Worli area,” reports NDTV after an interview with Francesco’s Pizzeria Mikhel Rajani. The distance for the delivery was 1.5 kilometers and required a four-rotor drone. The maximum travel distance is 8 kilometers before batteries require recharge. Rajani released the video of the delivery and predicted that such drones save time and money in a city with heavy traffic and be common within five years. In the meantime, businesses look forward to regulations from the Federal Aviation Administration in the United States and elsewhere. Reactions to the accomplishment vary from anticipation and joy to worries about heavy air traffic, accidents and bomb delivery. – YaleGlobal
