N. Korea Displays ‘Nuclear Deterrent’

A group of American observers visiting North Korean nuclear facilities are expected to report that Pyongyang does indeed have the plutonium it needs to produce nuclear weapons. The group is due to testify to the US Congress next week, but Pyongyang is already saying that it showed the unofficial delegation North Korea's 'nuclear deterrent'. Meanwhile, China is said to be trying to negotiate between the US and North Korea for an agreement by which the US grants written security guarantees, energy aid, and food aid to Pyongyang and North Korea agrees to end its nuclear program. Beijing's efforts may come to nought, though, as both Washington and Pyongyang are demanding the other party make the first move. – YaleGlobal
