The New AIPAC?

Inspired by the success of AIPAC and other lobbying organizations in forging a pro-Israeli American foreign policy, Indian-American groups are beginning to hit their stride. The biggest success for what World Policy Institute fellow Mira Kamdar calls the "India lobby" has been the overwhelming passage through the US Congress of a nuclear-cooperation deal that would legitimize India's weapons program, built in violation of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, and offering the nation energy resources and technology. More Washington policymakers view an alliance with India as beneficial, perhaps convinced more by a vision of India as a strategic counterpoint to rising China than high-priced lobbyists and prospective campaign contributions. The number of Indian-American voters continues to grow, with their businesses also coming of age. Onlookers can expect India to have growing influence on the foreign policy of the world's sole superpower. – YaleGlobal
