Trump Blames Cohen Hearing for Summit Result: Fox

Donald Trump in a tweet blamed the House of Representatives Oversight Committee for failure of the summit with North Korea’s dictator Kim Jong-un. During the daylong hearing, Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen who soon heads to prison for lying to Congress described Trump as a con and cheater, detailing manipulations of property values and a pattern of lies. As candidate and president, Trump is unconventional, refusing to release his tax returns. He makes decisions based on gut instincts, often rejecting expert and majority opinions. During the campaign, Trump touted his ability to make deals and hire the best people. Yet numerous investigations target administration members and other associates. Trump as president has walked away, suspended or withdrew from big deals like the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the Paris Agreement on climate change, the plan of action on Iran’s nuclear program and the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty with Russia. The administration did revise NAFTA and makes progress on a trade agreement with China. Trust is essential in negotiating the many verification and enforcement details of complex cross-border deals. Edmund DeMarche concludes for Fox News: “The hearing was seen as politically bruising for Trump who hoped to approach the meeting with Kim from a position of political strength.”– YaleGlobal
