US Vote Threatens Anglican Unity

A decision today by the US Episcopal church could lead to a wave of dissension and split the worldwide Anglican church, says this article in the UK's Guardian. Yesterday, at the triennial general meeting of the US church, American lay and clergy representatives voted to approve the election of the church's first openly gay bishop. Earlier this year, openly gay Gene Robinson was elected as diocesan bishop of New Hampshire, a move which many opposed to homosexuality have declared goes against their faith and the teachings of the Bible. Anglican leaders in other countries have suggested that they will either leave the Anglican fold or declare themselves out of communion with the US church if Robinson's election is approved by a vote of US bishops today. – YaleGlobal
