Want H1B visa? Come to Gujarat

Many Indians with cash and the right connections are finding it easy to obtain visas – legal or otherwise. According to this article in The Times of India, being denied a visa does not necessarily mean that Indian youths must give up their dreams of working in London or New York. Rather, they are bypassing the checks imposed by immigration authorities and entering "the murky world of fake passports and visas, false marriages and deals" with look-alikes. One of the most popular ploys is to pay an American company to petition for an H1B visa, which is specifically issued to prospective employees and is easier to obtain than a Green Card. “We have tie-ups with some companies in California and New York who issue an offer letter at a commission," a man specializing in visa fraud said. "Once the client reaches the US…he will be free to search for a job. Once he finds one, the company will give him a no objection certificate." Those who don't wish to pay for a costly H1B visa often choose to marry a friend or relative with a Green Card or to buy a passport from a look-alike. These marriages quickly end in divorce and sold passports are eventually reported as lost, but only after the spouse or client is safely within US or British borders. – YaleGlobal
