Xi Turns Sights on Wayward Senior Leaders in China Graft Fight

The Chinese Communist Party has consolidated power for President Xi Jinping’s and imposed new rules to battle corruption by senor leaders. “The rules detailed by the official Xinhua News Agency late Wednesday put the onus on top officials to set higher standards and called on cadres to report potential violations involving members of the party’s Central Committee,” reports Bloomberg. “The 25-person Politburo should restrain associates and ask family members to avoid inappropriate business activities, according to the rules.” Senior leaders are expected to avoid nepotism, abuse of power, as well as “individualism, liberalism, hedonism, ‘inflated political ambitions’ and ‘angling for positions.’” Reform advocates had pushed for an independent agency to review corruption cases and urged transparency for personal assets held by political leaders. – YaleGlobal
