India Outsources a Bollywood Film

The globalizing potential of India's massive Bollywood film industry has been long documented and celebrated. Millions around the world pack movie halls from West Africa to the West Indies to watch Indian actors dance atop the moors of Scotland or by the lakes of Tajikistan. National cinemas have in many instances given way to projects conceived, financed, and developed through multi-national collaboration – and Bollywood certainly ranks among the trend-setters. Indian-Canadian Arjun Sablok's "Neal 'n Nikki," currently being filmed in Vancouver, marks the first time a Bollywood feature designed for the Indian domestic market has been shot and set entirely abroad. Incorporating local Indian actors and Canadian crew, Sablok expects Indian audiences to embrace the project, insisting there "are now many Indian communities throughout the world, and Indians in India are well aware of this." – YaleGlobal
