Wireless Web Reaches into Paradise

With wireless technology, island culture may never be the same. Tourists usually go to the small, remote island-nation of Maldives in the Indian Ocean to get away from the bustle of their busy modern lifestyles. However, they might soon be able to check into their hotels as they hop off the airplane, and surf the internet while on the beach. Two computer enthusiasts are currently setting up wireless technology on the island of Rangali, the second island they will have wired in the Maldives. While Rangali already has limited internet access via a satellite link, Wi-fi technology will extend access to anyone on the island with a wireless card plugged into their laptop or PDA. Not only will this new technology connect one side of the island to the other, it will also connect these small islands to the rest of the world. – YaleGlobal
