Brexit and Europe’s 23 May Elections: Guardian
Almost three years have passed since UK voters decided by a close margin to end their country’s membership in the European Union. With so much more known about Brexit consequences, opponents have unsuccessfully pressed political leaders to allow a second referendum. Still, voters have an opportunity to express their wishes through the EU parliamentary elections on 23 May. “So there is now one simple task: to maximise the vote for parties that support a confirmatory referendum on Brexit, giving the British people a democratic choice between accepting the negotiated Brexit deal and remaining in the EU,” writes Timothy Garton Ash for the Guardian. If member states are to move forward and avoid uncertainty about the European Union, voters must carefully review the candidates, positions and parties and then turn out in full force. The deadline for registering to vote is 7 May. – YaleGlobal
