US Sanctions Target Iran Oil Sales: Washington Post

Ramping up its pressure against the Iranian regime, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the United States would go after any country that continues to buy Iranian oil. Nations holding waivers that expire May 1 must comply with this policy as well. The Trump administration shows little desire to provide wiggle room for nations with waivers on Iranian oil imports including China, India, Japan, South Korea and Turkey, the Washington Post reports. According to Pompeo, the US is in talks with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to ensure that global oil supply remains relatively stable ahead of the summer driving months. While allies like Japan probably won’t contest this decision, Istanbul and Beijing are vocal with their disagreement on the escalation of the maximum-pressure campaign. – YaleGlobal
